ABOUT CONOR LONG

Conor Long was a young man from Boston, New York who lost his life in July of 2018 in a hiking accident 10 days after his 20th birthday. While Conor’s life was cut short, the impact he made on people’s lives in the Western New York Community was extensive and continues to live on today.

First and foremost, Conor was kind. He was always the first to help a student in need, a child with a disability or a neighbor in need of an extra hand. Conor also initiated many programs in the Hamburg School District that showed students the positive impact they could have on their neighbors and local community.

Conor also made a big impact on the Hamburg School District. Conor was the first student representative to ever sit on the school board on behalf of the student body. This position on the school board fit like a glove following Conor’s history of leadership among the students in Hamburg Schools. Now this position was nothing new for Conor. He was also the Hamburg Student Government President during his time at the high school. During that time frame, Conor’s goal was to assist as many students as he could either socially, academically, or athletically.

Conor was nominated as the first president of the Hamburg Health Science Academy during his junior year of high school. One way Conor was able to help enhance the Health Science Academy’s learning experiences for their students was by creating the “Hamburg Bulldog Dash”. This event was a 5K to help raise funds for the Health Science Academy on a yearly basis. Because of this event, the Health Science Academy has been able to take students on field trips into local hospitals so they are able to receive a “hands on” learning experience.

Throughout Conor’s 20 years of life, one thing that remained consistent was his support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society which held a special place in Conor’s heart. Conor was able to raise over $2,000 for the society during his time at Hamburg High School. In the Spring of 2017, Conor managed to bring “Bald for Bucks” back to Hamburg Schools for the first time in over 10 years. This event was able to raise over $5,000 for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Throughout all of these events that took place in Conor’s life, he completed every single one with the intention of assisting as many people as he could. No matter where or when, if someone needed help, Conor was there to help them out and make their day a little brighter.
